Back-to-School

The Weekend

Hello again, friends!  What a lovely weekend. 

Eleonora and I had a fabulous time staying up late, watching ‘The Sound of Music’ on Thursday night. We even paused to make muffins. During the ball scene, I said, “Wouldn’t it be fun to go to something like that?”  She said, “Oh, I HAVE been....but the music was crazy!”  (Referring to the Daddy-Daughter dance, ha!). 

Then Friday was my 11th and final day of inservice at school!  If we aren’t prepared now, we never will be!  For family movie night on Friday night we watched ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid.’  Now that was a let-down after our great movie the night before!

We tossed a little baby Benji shower on Saturday morning at Buzz’s new house. 

Then returned home for a little chalk art party.

You can see she comes by it naturally!  (For the uninformed, these lovely examples of chalk art are destined to be laminated, cut out, and will one day grace a lovely autumnal-themed school bulletin board.)

THEN, Chris and I continued the crafting with some vinyl cutting on our Sillhouette. You would not even believe how long these few little names took us!  Helpful hint, stay far away from the glittery vinyl!

This morning, we watched church online. Chris and the kids had the living room all set up in an amphitheater around the tv with McDonald’s biscuits. Good times!  Don’t tell, but we were ten minutes into the sermon, I was starting to think that our pastor was really repeating himself this week, but I didn’t say anything. Then, he grabbed some scissors and cut the head off a flower and I finally realized, he was repeating himself because we were rewatching last week’s sermon!  Hahaha. Chris and the boys hadn’t ever seen it, so it was all on me to not notice for that long. Oops!  

Next we had a little pool party. I did my camp office job for the last two weeks. ‘Nother oops.  

Then Caleb realized he had never shopped for his school supplies. I’d offered to take him multiple times, and each time he said he wasn’t interested if he couldn’t buy himself a LEGO set while we were there. Today he was finally ready. He was so cute running to a different aisle with a price checker to compare prices over and over because those school aisles had been ransacked!  What a mess!  Also he’d already planned the menu for Monday night and written out the ingredients he needed on the grocery list, so we got all that too.  Finally we made it to the self-checkout (because that’s about all there is at our Walmart now and the lines for cashiers were miles long).  That was amusing too. He made up a system for rolling the canned goods over the scanner. The whole thing took ages. The worker had to help us multiple times. I don’t think he ever properly weighed our bananas.  

Finally made it home to supper. Everyone picked out their outfits for tomorrow and packed their bags for school. I went for a walk with Amanda. 

I got home and finalllllly (It has taken nearly the whole summer!) finished reading Swiss Family Robinson to the boys (Again!  For the second time!  There are at least two versions published as the for-real book and we did both!!  Totally different endings!  So weird!  We only figured it out because first we were listening to the audio book on my phone. Then it expired so I got the regular version on my phone. Then we got back to the front of the line for the audio version (long book!) and tried to find where we were and it was impossible to find!  Because it was a different ending!  Googled it and found out it’s true! So we finished reading the online version. Then we checked out a paper copy at the real library and finished that ending too. Shew!!).  

Now it’s time for snoozing!  If you have a hard time falling asleep like me, let me tell you the best movie ever to fall asleep to!  It’s put me to sleep in mere minutes every night for a week and I still haven’t made it to the end!  It’s called ‘Fitzwilly’ and it has Dick Van Dyke and it’s on Amazon Prime and I have never found a better movie to put myself to sleep!  And so, good night!  Tomorrow is my kids’ first day of school since March 13!  (And it’s not reallllly their first real day back to school, but that’s a whole ‘nother story!).
