I love, love, loved the Jan Karon books the most ever this time around. Give the series a try today!

I read Abel’s island as a kid, to my boys when they were smaller, and this month, to my 3rd grade ESL students. It wasn’t the perfect read-aloud for them. Too much to explain.  Abel’s not just an anthropomorphic mouse trying to survive on an uninhabited island, which is all I remembered, but he’s a quirky, fussy, Edwardian mouse. I recommend it, but not for beginning English learners. 

I checked this out for my kids to take on Spring Break, but I was the only read it. Historical fiction. My fave.  Recommend.  





I got this Emily book out of a “Book Box” at a goat farm, and it was fantastic!  It’s by the author of the Betsy-Tacy books I loved as a kid!  She even ends up teaching English to Lebanese kids in it. Chris says our last name is Lebanese and his great grandparents came from Lebanon.  Jennifer and my mom both read it after me and enjoyed it thoroughly. 

Spring Break

Weekend

The kids and I did lots of weeding and yard work on Saturday - unfortunately Caleb’s arms are covered in poison ivy this evening!  Chris decided to finish the top of the cabin’s chimney. It’s looking great!  He did one section on Saturday and another on Sunday, and one more day should finish it off!

The kids and I enjoyed a trip to the “big city” after our yard work. Maybe Eleonora and I enjoyed it the most. 

The boys got haircuts and looked very handsome. 

Then our water heater quit working and Chris fixed that - he’s as handy as a pocket on a shirt, as Aunt Faye likes to say about him. 

Today after church, the kids and I went to Jennifer’s house and while our kids played, she dropped about 12 bins out of the attic down onto my head and we organized and cleaned out her closet and had a smashing good time. 

February Goals

Well it’s been just wonderful to have a group of Goal Gals to encourage each other in 2022.  I finished 6 books in February. All very good. I’m enjoying the Mitford books so much. I read Calico Captive to the boys and that was very interesting as well.











I got rid of 95 items. I feel like I’m slowing down on the decluttering since December and January so maybe I’m getting closer to having just the things we use. Don’t know about that though!  

We had a fun gathering at Cracker Barrell to celebrate our February progress. 

March is off to a great start!
