Creative Discovery Museum

One day of Fall Break, we joined my mom and Jennifer and her girls for a morning at the Creative Discovery Museum. 

Jennifer and my mom mostly stuck with the girls, so my pictures feature the boys.

Oh, happy day!  I think I have found a way to write blogs from my phone again. We shall see!  

On Sunday afternoon, we helped Evelyn celebrate her fourth birthday with a Moana party!

Our party pavilion was right next to the playground, and a fabulous time was had by all. 

Chris likes to get to church early, and I mean early. So this week we joined him in the sanctuary for a while, while he set up. 

Here is our sweet Kindergarten-2nd grade Sunday School class that I teach with Jennifer and my mom. I cut Caleb out of the picture, of all people!

July & August Books

July and August were my lightest reading months so far, with only 7 books read between the two of them.  But I did reach my goal of reading 50 books in 2017!

From the church library, this was the story of an American surgeon in Nepal.  I'm not sure why the book is titled the way it is, because goats and loquat trees were mentioned in one insignificant little sentence, as far as I can remember.

Listened to Anne of Avonlea on cd's in the car.  Didn't love the narrator, but this is a cool book cover I found on the internet, eh?  Also makes me wonder why the movie versions don't stick more closely to the stories as they're written.  So good.

I read this only two months ago, yet I can't think of a single interesting fact I learned in this book.  With a little help from Google, I'm remembering, that the main point seemed to me, that anything you think you know about medieval times, actually, the opposite is true.

I love a good old-timey school teacher book as much as anyone, and this one was fine, but it's no Little House or Christy, I'll tell you.  Read this to the boys.

Kiya was a seqel to the other Kiya I read in June (and another Kindle freebie).  It was mildly amusing.

Listened to this in the car as well. Different narrator.  No Megan Follows, that's for sure.

I thought this had the look of a fantastic new book to read with the boys.  It was fine, but super long.  "Marvelously appealing" is an overstatement.

I'm sorry to say that July and August were busts for great books for me.

Not to worry, my dry streak has broken, and I've already read 6 books in September, and 5 were fabulous!  Things are looking up!

Josiah's 10th Birthday

We celebrated Josiah's 10th birthday on Saturday, September 9.

It was a jolly good party, and I will show you some pictures interspersed with an interview with the birthday boy himself.

Sweet Ca-Ca

The kids had their second night of AWANA last night.  In Caleb's class, the kids can win prizes for saying their verses.  Last year he won a little stuffed animal for Anna Kate, and I guess he had promised to win one for Lydia this year.  Jenn sent me these pictures last night of the toy and note he had given to Lydia.

And don't worry, we have been studying very hard for his spelling tests - even this very morning.

Although now that I think about it, 'there' and 'were' have both already been spelling words this year!
